Recent UpdatesApr 11th 2010
Ok, so its been a while since I last updated this. Nothing has changed much, the server has just one active player (RINCEWIND) and it appears that the Admins have disappeared. The other SE servers are still offline and cant be found. Ive lost all contact with the devs as well.

Mainly, this update is due to the fact that Imperial is now being hosted on a new server and there were some complications along the way. However, the site should be fully working once more. If there are any errors, feel free to drop me a message in-game.

Solar Empire ServersNov 27th 2009
I've just noticed that ALL of the older Solar Empire and Quantum Star servers dont seem to exist anymore...what happened? EW has gone, SolarEmpire.com has gone, granted loads of the others had already disappeared. Does anyone know where/if there are any other SE Servers out there? Someone was advertising a new QSSE server on the in-game forums the other day. Oh and the Astrum Futura site is also down... Looks like a grim time for the Solar Empire network

UpdateNov 12th 2009
Hey to everyone still at Imperial, though this is definately not that many people. Activity has unfortunately fallen a hell of a lot. My personal activity has also diminished which im sorry for. I have no immediate plans for the server so it will remain operational for the time being.

Server StatusApr 10th 2009
Hey all, im sure you are very much aware that Imperial is slowly but surely dying out. The player base is all but extinct now, though the Admins, both Cain and Singapore, are being persistent in their efforts. For this I thank them, and to those who still wish for to play on Imperial have fun.

My intentions for the server at the present time are for it to remain active and available regardless of the player base. Hopefully the dust wont settle just yet, but id just like to say thanks for everyone who has been a part of the site during its brief life and that the past 5 years have certainly taught me a lot. Happy gaming :)

Merry Christmas!Dec 25th 2008
Merry Christmas everyone. I guess a news post should be made since its been a while. Hope everyone has a good day and gets everything they want for Christmas; if i had my way, it would be the new Intel Processor, but apparently its too expensive ;) Happy Holidays players!

DomainOct 29th 2008
Just to let you all know that Imperials domain (imperial-empire-se.com) is being transfered to a different host. So if there are any problems, give it 24 hours and they should be sorted :) In the mean time, happy gaming

IdeaSep 20th 2008
Well, ive come up with an idea for an alternative gameplay style. For one, im working on creating a half decent AI, but this is taking a while due to the complexity of the script.

The main thing i was thinking about considering was the way that people buy ships. Now, there is a variety of ships that can be purchased then upgraded afterwards individually. As well as this, the Admin can add new custom ships, so the variety is potetentially limitless. But despite this it seems a little stale at times. So how about you, as the players, design your own ships for your own personal use? The idea is that, chasis are provided by the Admin and the game in general. You then get to pick from a list of upgrades that determines how the ship will be used; weapons (new attack system, that should work EVEN BETTER), shields, power, engines, mining etc. All these upgrades, of which im counting on producing many more than are currently available, will be at your disposal to then upgrade the 'slots' on your chassis.

Now I know what your thinking; "Am I gonna have to do this for every damn ship i make?". and the answer is no. You will be able to save the ship design which will be only available to you (other players would be able to replicate the same design obviously, but if you think of it first then you have it first). Now these would be designs, hence you wouldnt have actually bought it yet and with all these upgrades etc an algorithm will let you know how much the ship would cost to be produced. You can then mass produce any design you like. If you find at some stage your design doesnt work too well, or you want to make an upgrade, you wont have to destroy your entire fleet and start over with a new design. You could simply edit your current design, and it will give you a price to update EVERY ship that the design currently applies to. Simple huh? Note that this wont be a permanent change, it would be set as a variable for the admins to change at will.

Just a little foot note, if anyone bothered to read this, let me know - either PM in game, or email etc

For those of you who either didnt know or forgot, im on Vacation in Corfu for the 11th-25th July then in Spain for the 29th July to the 12th August. So dont expect me to be checking in, this was a rare online moment anyways. I wont be back till the 12th August at which point I start work on the 14th. So in the mean time I hope the site doesnt die

Webhosting Developments 2Jun 4th 2008
Ok, well that was quick. The server has been changed over and Imperial is online :) We were down for about 20 mins max

Webhosting DevelopmentsJun 4th 2008
Well, that went pretty well. Imperial is going to be transfered back over to its original host. ElitePalaces (the current hosting) was previously owned by a family member of a friend, but was sold on. So now the site is going to be transfered to that family members new company. If the site is down, it shouldnt be down for much more than 24 hours as its just the DNS servers re-routing the traffic. Ill post an advanced warning of when it will take place.

WebhostingJun 3rd 2008
Some possible bad news people. I was informed today that the server Imperial runs on is going to be shut down. As such, I have untill the 1st of July to relocate the site. Ill keep you all apprised of any developments. I think it should be ok, I have some contacts that might be able to secure me some good hosting :)

May DayMay 4th 2008
Hope you all enjoy your Bank Holiday Monday. Just a random News Post really since I havent posted one in about a month.

So far there has been little/no development on those new Graphics mentioned before. Unfortunately, the project didnt go through to well and has been put on the side by my friend who was going to do it. We'll see, something might come of it but dont hold your breath.

In other news, Prometheus seems to be holding pretty steady. Most bugs have been routed out and have actually been fixable. This is turning out to have been an excellent progress. Imperials previous codebase had bugs I couldnt figure out after having stared at them for 3 years. So its useful to have coded everything and know how it all goes together :)

GraphicsMar 27th 2008
Ive had a proposition from a good friend of mine which might result in a new internal layout, new graphics and quite possibly a trailer to promote the site. This news is probably very premature, so dont get your hopes up too much. However, the possibility is most certainly out there. Just thought id let you guys know, well, as far as I can ascertain, Singapore is the only person to read this news anyways.

UpdateMar 25th 2008
Well, as you can see, I havent made a news post for quite some time. To tell the truth there isnt so much to say. The Change Log identifies everything that has gone on since the official release of the Prometheus Codebase.

Development has proceeded very well. Although there are still some bugs and errors floating around, most have been identified and nearly all have been fixed. Others are just waiting for me to have a spare 5 minutes from college work so that I can fix them.

Im very much eager to hear feedback on the codebase, so please feel free to message me either in game, or use the Discussions system to identify problems or email me at imperial@imperial-empire-se.com

User AccountsJan 17th 2008
Unfortunately (for you), due to the sheer size of the database and the amount of unused accounts, i've decided that Imperials old database of User Accounts will not be ported across. Therefore, you will need to register for a new account. Sorry people, but it does help keep things running smoothly. Due to the new system it will be A LOT easier for pruning to take place :)

Prometheus Wars v1.2 BETAJan 13th 2008
Prometheus Wars is here!!! I am talking about an all singing all dancing completed codebase ready to be put to the test. Granted there a few things that need tidying such as specialised scripts that havent been ported over (Ship Selling, Changos etc), finishing off some of the bombs (Alpha and Gamma bombs are completed though). So basically all rounds on the Imperial codebase are now the finals. Make them good!

Interesting...Nov 8th 2007
My friend and I were randomly surfing the web as opposed to doing our work in IT and while I was checking my email, he was messing about on Cafe-Press and found this; Stupidly long Cafe-Press URL. Its a Solar Empire shirt! How cool is that!

Thank you!Nov 2nd 2007
So here I was this morning, normal day, other than my black eye and such. Opened my email to find this;

"This email is to inform you that your game has generated the most incoming hits of any game at OMGN this month!

Because your game generated the most incoming hits at OMGN, you can use 150,000 Box Advertisements impressions in OMGN's advertising system for free! To setup an advertisement, reply to this email."

This as you can tell, is from OMGN and is because of the voting that you have all done in-game. So i'd basically like to say thank you for voting for Imperial and now I can get a bit of advertising done :)

Nearly there...Oct 21st 2007
After 2 days of development on Prometheus (yes I did do sod all for the first week of my holiday) it is almost complete. The only primary scripts that need to be completed are Autoshifting and finishing the Bombs. To add to this there are ship designs and upgrade designs. Secondary scripting consists of porting Chango's over, adjusting the purchase options for upgrades (admin vars mainly). So we are looking at a max of 4 or 5 days more development since this week gets a little busy for me and then Prometheus is ready. Once it is, Admins will be instructed that once their rounds end, they end for good untill the changeover. After the last game has finished the codebase will be swapped and then comes the major part of debugging the entire system. Wish me luck

Upcoming DevelopmentOct 9th 2007
Ok, time for a news update. My college term ends this Friday meaning I have two weeks off. The majority of this time will be used to complete Prometheus which I am very confident about. There are only minor things that need to be completed or just fine tuned, one this is done I will announce it here and give you all an expected date for Imperial's source to be replaced. After that comes a period of debugging everything. There are several minor bugs, there always are, but they cant be routed out unless the code is put to the test under real gaming conditions. So be patient and put up with Imperial for a little longer and soon you will find yourself with a nice new source code, built from scratch, ready to provide new abilities and better efficiency.

Excellent ProgressSep 18th 2007
Yesterday marked the largest development spree since the RSS Feed began for Prometheus. I got a lot done, two new scripts, a new function, updated lots of bugs and much more. The entire site is pulling together very nicely. The new attack system I have been mentioning has actually been completed! Me and Shibby--Shibby (BloodHawk for those who used to know him) did a lot of testing and flattenend at least a dozen bugs.

The main things to be done now are to create the Options Page, add more equipment to the outfitter (Genesis Devices, Bombs?), port Chango's over to Prometheus (Bilkos is not going to be in Prometheus unless it is particular wanted by the majority of players), update and add all the upgrades and ship types, update the Ship Creator (not a priority), and also test Sudden Death and banning :)

Once all this is done (and maybe a couple of other things) Imperial will go down for a day or two at max and Prometheus will come online and take its place. IF everything goes well we are looking at Prometheus being online mid-late October! This will mark 3 years of development, a long time but I most definately think it was worth the wait, so dont forget to check it out at http://www.imperial-empire-se.com/pnew and the RSS Feed is available in the Game Listing or at http://www.imperial-empire-se.com/pnew/rss.php.

Down TimeSep 7th 2007
Well that wasnt expected. There was an error with web server that im hosted on so unfortunately most services stopped (including email, SQL, crons, etc). So thats why Imperial has been down; it relies alot on SQL.

Never the less the server is back up and running again and you should all be right where you left off :)

Server ActivitySep 1st 2007
Well, looks like I was wrong with the previous news post. The server has infact doubled its monthly traffic and is the highest month over the past 4. The forums and amount of players online are higher than in the last year I think and to top it all off the Prometheus attack system is being implementated and should be running not too long from now. Needs to be debugged of course, but I think after that I might port it over. I realise I said that it would be done once all the major and minor pieces of code were done, but we'll see. That reminds me, the Options page doesnt even exist at the moment along with several other little bits.

In any case, depends on College work, we might see Prometheus by Christmas :)

A Bit DustyAug 12th 2007
Well the server is occumulating lots of dust at the moment, or more rather The Realm of Destiny is. So as such it has been taken offline, the remaining two games still seem to be going relatively well. Lets hope this continues.

Prometheus is right around the corner people, it just needs to get a few things sorted, then we need to polish it up with any bug fixes :)

OverviewJul 7th 2007
Ok, so perhaps Prometheus didnt get finished quite as I had planned. The old attack system has been completely overhauled by the way. Ive redesigned it from the ground up and it should allow for much more customisation, but hopefully it sould still remain balanced. This has been achieved by categorising upgrades into seperate groups, each with its advantages, but for nearly every upgrade, there is an upgrade to counter it. There isnt a counter for every upgrade because some upgrades cant be countered (Mining based upgrades for example).

Most development paused during mid May if i remember correctly, however the summer holidays are approaching and once again im going to attempt to get more done!

Prometheus Wars v1.0 BETAApr 19th 2007
A couple of days ago Prometheus finally hit BETA. All the critical systems are in place and work, so all I need now are testers! So please contact me anyway you know how so that I know you're willing to help out. The testing should take a week or so, maybe more and will continue on as new features are added (ive actually already began rethinking the entire attack system). Also, new ideas are always welcome.

MaintenancesApr 12th 2007
As you may or may not know (due to the distinct lack of players) the maintenances have been down since around the 28th of March. However, the issue has now been rectified. Lynx, a method used with crons, was disabled due to a security issue on the server. As such all crons using lynx stopped working because they no longer had access to it. In any case the maints now run straight from the PHP CLI and work fine with a newer and more efficient security system in place.

RSS (Update)Mar 26th 2007
Ok, I was fast on this for once and created a script for you to run. Its completely untested but should work. If there are any issues pester me and ill fix it. The file is located here; http://www.imperial-empire-se.com/pnew/rss.zip which contains a readme file for a bit of further information.

RSS FeedMar 26th 2007
Yep, thats right. RSS. Imperial doesnt have it yet, but Prometheus however does. So for those who want to keep up with what im doing, point your RSS Reader to here; http://www.imperial-empire-se.com/pnew/change_log.php. If you dont have an RSS Reader, i'll be building a PHP one for you guys which you can run off of your home PC providing you have PHP installed. Ill produce a Readme and such to go along with everything so that it shall all go smoothly. It would also be nice is people used it considering I spent several hours actually learning that RSS isnt as easy at it looks because you cant define your own tags *sighs*

AnniversaryFeb 27th 2007
Once again I forgot about the damn anniversary and I actually only remembered because I was digging through a 'Way Back Machine' for Imperial and came across last years anniversary news post. So that actually means ive had this layout for a year, wow, that went fast.

In any case, Prometheus sort of hasnt done anything since the last news post, though if you're all lucky, I may get round to doing something during my two weeks off from the 3rd of March. Though its likely ill be too busy being a lazy git and not getting out of bed untill the late afternoon. I also have a job that I need to prevent myself from loosing because I work less than an hour a month (thats actually pretty accurate which is scarey). By the way, Admins are beginning to run a little low, so contact me if you're interested and i'll see how it all turns out. We could really do with getting some more people in here, and could players please send me a list of known issues with the Imperial code base to imperial@imperial-empire-se.com, thanks :)

PrometheusJan 6th 2007
As some of you may or may not know, Prometheus is a new "fork" of SE that I intend on releasing. Though I doubt it will be officially recognised, I doesnt hurt to try ;) The main focus is providing a more clear and revamped version of Generic, but since im not part of that team, nor do I wish to take that burden upon myself, its easier to distribute my own release.

As I said before, Prometheus is based upon the Generic fork of Solar Empire, but this does not however mean thats simple tidying up the existing code. The main structure has been completely changed and all files are being written from scratch. Unfortunately, due to my limited capabilities and the amount of time I am able to dedicate to the project, it has been in development for over two years. Despite this, it has made considerable progress in the last six months.

With the development as it is, once a few things have been coded, tested and so on, Prometheus should be ready for ALPHA testing. BETA testing should follow shortly for the basic code structure. As time progresses additions and modifications to the code will be added. For example, Imperial started off as the base v2.1.2 code of Generic, but since then has had things added on (Mining Stations, Torpedoes, etc) though granted they arent of the highest standard, Prometheus will be different, no more simply hacks just to force the script to work.

In any case this is turning into a ramble so for those interested, check out http://www.imperial-empire-se.com/pnew which is the current address for the main project (which will eventually reside on its own seperate domain).

Merry Christmas!Dec 23rd 2006
Merry Christmas all! Just to let most of you know that its very likely the majority of the games will be paused for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, so the 24th to the 26th. Make sure you check with the game Admin to see what he/she plans on doing. For example, some may closed for additional days or not at all. Hope you have a great Christmas and make sure you buy me a present ;)

Woops...Nov 7th 2006
Sorry about the site being down, I completely did not realise it was time to renew the domain. The site went down on the 5th, but its back up now after sending the payments and such. The good news is that this wont happen next year (as it did last year as well) because the site has been renewed for 2 years instead of 1. I'll just have to remember the renewal date ;)
Posted by: Dead Eye

AftermathOct 6th 2006
I suppose now would be an appropriate time for another Server News post. So, in light of recent events, im taking a look through the maints code to see if I cant splice a few bug fixes together and prevent it from skipping. The errors are very vague if I remember from my last attempt and the code is very dense so this could take a while.

Also, as for an update in general. Imperial has generally reasonably stable these days, though the player base is completely eratic. Command Frontier hasnt had any progress made on it what so ever and when I shall finish it is anyones guess (probably not for several years knowing me). Lastly, Prometheus. I did managed to actually get a bit of work done to it during my two weeks on holiday. Unfortunately I cant remember what I actually did so that doesnt help for news, but it has made progress. I think the main updates consisted of fine tuning the Attack System. Idealy I would get it done over my upcoming two weeks off for Half Term of my College course, but realistically we are talking another 6 months I expect. Never the less, you are all more than welcome to follow the development of it.

That reminds me, if you actually read this news, could you send me an email just to actually let me know? It seems pointless writing it all out for no reason. Use this email; news@imperial-empire-se.com

Latest General NewsJul 29th 2006
As of late not much has been done. Far less than I was intending and wanted to do, but never mind. I think the Fleet Loading should actually be working now, for the first time since the server went online. The A.I is still in development and so are the other two servers (refer to previous post). However, a chance for me to work on these does seem to be available since I am on holiday from the 20th August to 2nd of September (I think - I'll amend the dates in a later post if necessary). Prometheus will probably be my primary concern along with how many hours of games I can cram in - obviously.

LazynessMay 29th 2006
As most of you should know by now, im kinda lazy so in retrospect you can probably just guess that I haven't done much. The A.I is still in development and I don't think any bugs have been fixed as of late. However, there is good news! I'm finally out of school and on study leave for my exams and once they are over I shall have a lot of spare time in which it is highly likely that I will become bored. So a way for me to cure boredem will likely be playing games, though after a while I shall give up and start coding once again (see there was a point coming out of all of this). So hopefully I shall make some progress especially with the other two Development servers that not many people know about (Prometheus Wars and Command Frontier).

Artificial IntelligenceMar 2nd 2006
Thats right, A.I! Hopefully, if I get round to it as much as i'd like, Imperial shall have a fully operational Alien A.I closely followed by a Pirate A.I. This inevitably will bring on many interesting games especially if used well by the Admins ;)

Also, two or three bugs have been fixed in the last week or so adding to the stability of the server. If I dont get bored and back into a 'I cant be bothered' mood, I may fix that damn cargo/fighter bug which is the largest problem for the majority of players.

AnniversaryFeb 26th 2006
I dont actually remember the precise date where upon Imperial was activated but it was around late January to February. So in light of that, it is in fact another year gone by for Imperial with a few hiccups but nothing to major thankfully, of which I think we made it through with only two hosts as opposed to something like eleven the year before.

DowntimeNov 7th 2005
As some of you may have noticed, on the 6th of November (Sunday) the site actually went down. This was due to the fact that the domain expired. Thankfully, it was renewed without my expense by BloodHawk or Hawk as he is more commonly known as now. So please pass your thanks on to him for keeping Imperial running for this next coming year :)

SE DictionarySep 26th 2005
Well I scrapped the Development link on the Navigation and its been replaced by an entirely new idea; a Solar Empire Dictionary. All terms will be added by players and fans alike, then being approved by me (or possibly some other people who are trust worth enough). The Dictionary at this point is completely un-official and hasnt got many terms in its vocabulary so please go ahead and add some more entries.

Imperial Empire SE v2.3.1Sep 18th 2005
Well going by the changes made, we shall now be moving on to v2.3.1 of Imperial. I gather you would like to know where the rest went. Well, v2.2 were the edits to this part of the site, such as adding the Downloads and Ratings systems. v2.3.1 will be the release of Imperial Empire SE's Generic code. It needs a lot of tidying up, such as the login page, admin section, obsolete files and so on.

This will take a very long amount of time, so to keep you all interested I expect I will release certain snippets of code that can be added on to your own pesonal servers, whilst I dig around and fix the rest of the coding.

Latest UpdateSep 7th 2005
Well after a few more days of Development, I think just a single Admin Tool has been built, so my development plan is sort of going down the drain it looks. However, that doesnt mean I havent done anything. You are now able to add downloads but you have to rely on me confirming they arent viruses and so on so be patient with the system. Also Members can change their password, exciting I know, im sure you can hardly contain yourself.

Anyways, next stage in development will more than likely be; the removal of the development link - its pointless since I post everything here, creating the Request section - obviously you arent going to get a reply unless you get people here so hurry up and do so, eventually a few Admin Tools - I wont need them too much they are just handy, but Admins and Moderators will.

Dont forget people, we need more activity here for the site to take off so _please_ go out and spread the word about the site now that it is running.

Recent Development and Further PlansSep 4th 2005
Well after 3 days of work, development has gone mostly according to plan. I did swap a few things around whereby the Downloads and Rating sections have been created and debugged before the actual Administration tools. So, better off for Members than me. These tools will follow shortly and so then certain members may be recruited to give me a hand in controlling the site, note that if you swamp me with emails its not too handy.

If you would like to help out, please do send me an email, but add as much as you can to it. Any applicants that dont supply much info on themselves, experiences, knowledge and reasons for wanting a position will just be looked over. This may take a while as I mentioned before, because of me going back to school (the thrills), but ill try to do what I can when I can. I doubt many positions will be handed out untill a fair amount of the Administration tools are produced and debugged for flaws. No point giving people positions when they cant actually do anything with their powers.

In any case, contact me via this address ONLY: imperial@imperial-empire-se.com any other emails I get will be ignored, mainly due to the fact that I dont use any of my other addresses as much...or at all whichever.

Upcoming DevelopmentSep 1st 2005
Well after nearly a week of inactivity due to not being near internet access, development of the site should take off. I plan on getting the login system and such up and running properly for the Resource part of the site so that we can start getting members for the rest of the site that will follow. I think the main priority will revolve around development that not many people will be able to see, in other words a lot of the Administration Tools will be developed first such as news posting, rather than me relying on phpMyAdmin.

Once thats up and running, I expect a downloads area to arrive shortly for the site to begin on its way. I will place certain things up for download meaning that any user contributions will have to be safely stored on your own Hard Drives or somewhere else for now untill I manage to get round to an uploading script, which shall be accompanied by a rating system and authorisation system that I mentioned in the before post.

So have fun browsing and watching development, or playing on the background Generic server untill this site is fully operational for the most part.

Imperial Empire SE v2.1Aug 26th 2005
Imperial Empire SE, as you may have noticed, has undergone some changes. The sites main use is now for the dedication of free projects based on Generic SE. QSSE is also welcome here so dont be discouraged, hopefully the site will detail downloads and helpful developments posted by users and others.

The development plan for this site in its self is as follows; the main site layout will be constructed and modified untill it is finally perfected for its use, the scripts needed for each individual part of the site will be created and debugged as we go along hopefully ending up with a fully working Login System and support section for the entire site. As progress continues, more and more will hopefully be added to create a massive directory of bug fixes and private development projects that people wish to submit to the community. I myself, will be releasing a lot of open source code as the site progresses, including snippets from Imperial itself. Im also hoping to get a rating system up and running for each project that someone submits to the gallery. This site will also be hopefully used for image creation as well. Many people seem to query the ships within SE and planets, so maybe there are a few budding graphics designers willing to submit a few galleries of images for people to use.

As for the old Imperial Generic server, it is still running in the background and can still be accessed to play on via the left-hand side login. This site will have its own seperate login and for the sake of preventing a few issues from occuring, the directory side of the site wont transfer your accounts over, so you will have to re-register.

All registrations are free and so are all the downloads. Developers who submit snippets are fully responsibly for the packages contents, in other words, I or any other person running Imperial is not responsibly in any way for anything on the site that is not our own work. To prevent such things from possibly occuring, I will set up a authorisation system whereby each project will be reviewed first before it is actually available to be downloaded. Please remember that this site will depend heavily on people getting it out there, please try not to annoy any Site Owners and thus cause the site to gain a bad reputation, but do spread the word to friends and get adding your own snippets to the gallery.

Estimated time for completetion of the gallery system should be around the 5th of September since I will be away from internet access for a week. So initial promotion of the site would still be helpful from everyone.
